The Department of Social Services has sponsored a variety of summer youth programs over the past seven years. These programs are intended to provide an opportunity to enhance the childsyoung adults positive self-esteem, increase social skills and communication techniques. This summer's approach was through Art Therapy as a new field of counseling. The idea is to create conditions con-ditions which assist children in releasing releas-ing that which lies dormant within, by providing an art framework or structure struc-ture in which the child can be free to move and to think and to fantasize in a constructive atmosphere. Ms. Harris will be returning to Kan-. Kan-. sas to finish her. final year in the Art Therapy program. |
