The campground will not be closed because of the fire. Campground evacuated as fire cinders 1 0 sites A Thursday evening fire evacuated the Green River Campground on Dinosaur National Monument, but firefighters were able to contain the fire to 10 campsites. The Jensen Fire Department, assisting the Park Service, responded to the fire at about 7:30 p.m. Seventy campers were evacuated from the campground as a safety precaution, but no one was injured . The 10 campsites camp-sites that were destroyed were unoccupied. unoc-cupied. The fire burned about 3'2 acres, and caused $2,500 in damage. Russ Case, Park Service, said the cause of the fire hasn't been determin ed yet, but it is suspected to be man-caused," man-caused," probably due to carelessness. Park service officials said the campground cam-pground will be open for the July 4 holiday. Campers were allowed to return to the campground after the fire was extinguished. The burned campsites will be the last to be used, if necessary, should the 90 campsite campground fill over the weekend. Persons camping in the monument are advised to be extremely careful with fire as much of the area is dry and susceptible. 1 |
