Show Public meeting on child center set The State Department of Social Services has scheduled a public meeting in its Vernal office for Thursday at 7:30 p.m. for a presentation on a multi-use multi-use facility to be built next to the Social Services building at 1052 West Market Drive. The building will serve as short-term emergency shelter for children and as a short-term detention center for juvenile offenders. It will have a capacity of four for eacl purpose. The $300,000 facility is expected to be finished in the fall. Uintah County will pay $100,000 of the cost, - according to McCord Marshall, Social Services Uintah Basin district -director. Marshall said juvenile offenders are taken to a facility in Springville. "In years past we've used the (county) jail. We can't do that now. It's against the law. "Shelter care is a different situation. It's emergency shelter care for hard-to-place youth." |
