Boys State is an educational program sponsored by the American Legion involving 500 to 600 boys who have just completed their junior year of high school. It is a week of political science schooling and training. They are involved in political parties, conventions, elections, state business, county business, electing officials and a number of other things including a session of state legislature. The governor and lieutenant governor elected will return next year to preside over the next year's Boys State which occurs each year. At the end of the week they elect two senators to attend Boys National. It's like Boys State, only on a national level. There will be 42 boys representing the Uintah Basin this year. Neil Deets, Vernal, and Dan Daniels, Fruitland, are going as counselors. Clarence Jones from the Roosevelt Legion Post is the president. Those interested in going to Boys State signed up at the high school in March. The faculty also nominated students to go. These people were interviewed by those at the post to determine who would go. 1 ' " .... 1 ' . ' JS t ' S i - y y i SHELDON JACKSON NELDON SEITZ 'X LARSON CALDWELL, JR MINOUAl |
