Show Singer's ranch loses privacy in road dispute Singer Carole King bought a remote mountain ranch in Idaho last year to get some privacy, but is having trouble getting it because of a dispute over a road leading through the ranch to someone so-meone else's property. Owners of the nearby land have asked a U.S. District Judge in Boise to reopen the road, which Miss King padlocked closed. Filing a lawsuit under her married name of Carole King Evers, she claims county officials erred last fall when they declared the road public. Miss King said she has lived in Idaho for five years and bought the Robinson Bar Ranch on the Salmon River between Challis and Stanley when she was assured there was no public access. District Judge Marion Callister promised to issue a ruling quickly, but asked the singer in the meantime to disclose the lock's combination to the neighbors. She agreed, with the understanding understan-ding that they would open the lock only in an emergency. The nearby property owners, Mr. and Mrs. Thurlow French, claim the road has been public for more than a century. |
