Show Public input sought for use of $364,043 Wouldn't it be nice to have $364,043 Revenue Sharine Funds have - a Wouldn t it be nice to have $364,043 from the federal government to spend anyway you wanted? Essentially that is the position of Vernal Ver-nal City, but there are some strings attached at-tached to the money . Expected entitlement in federal revenue sharing for 1983 is $205,000 and with $159,000 in unappropriated funds from last year, the city has $.'W4,04 in revenue in their Revenue Sharing Budget for fiscal year 1983. Although the city can spend the money anyway they please, there are some restrictions on how the money is handled. The law requires that Revenue Sharing Funds have - a separate budget which is subject to periodic audits, said Kenneth Bassett, Vernal City manager. Also the city must have a public hearing hear-ing to seek public input concerning final passage ol the budget. The proposed Revenue Sharing Budget allocates $329,700, the largest portion of which will be put into the city Street Depart-'. Depart-'. ment for a new road grader and street plow. Cost of these items and other expenditures ex-penditures in the Street Department total $125,000 from general revenue sharing. The Fire Department will receive $100,000 for a new fire truck, and the Water Department will receive $38,500 for a dump truck and other items. The Police Department will receive $35,000 for two new vehicles, and the City Ci-ty Council will receive $1,000 for recording recor-ding equipment to record council meetings. Other allocations of the revenue sharing money will be $600, City Ci-ty Manager; $200, finance; $8,000, non-departmental; non-departmental; $6,000, motor pool; $5,000, solid waste; and $10,400, parks and recreation. Total of the proposed revenue sharing budget is $329,700, leaving $34,343 unappropriated.' A public hearing seeking input concerning con-cerning the General Revenue Budget for 1983 will be Wednesday, June 6, at 8 p.m. at the city office building, 495 East Main. |
