Show PET POWER A small but growing body of research indicates that the presence of pets may make people healthier and happier, and sometimes even longer-lived than similar people who don't own animals. In one study at the University of Pennsylvania's Center for the Interaction of Animals and Society, researcher Erika Friedmann found that among 92 cornary patients, pet ownership was a strong indicator of survival, surpassing even human relationships. While only 28 of the 39 people who did not have pets were still living a year after Friedmann began the study, 50 of the 53 pet owners were still alive. Researchers also believe that pets may be especially beneficial to the elderly, for whom they provide, among other things, companionship. , .- |
