Show AADA raises $7,482 at Superdance John Kay was the top winner at the MD Super Dance held April 30 and May 1 at the Elks Lodge in Vernal. Kay, who won a trophy and an Atari Home Video game, raised $2,593 in pledges, and is the only person in Utah to raise that much. Kay has participated in the dance all three years it has been held in Vernal. "Getting that many pledges was hard work," Kay said. "The dance was fun, but I slept for 20 hours when it was over." His partner, Kimberli Dudley, was in the top ten pledge collectors with $179. Fifty-six dancers started the dance at 7 p.m. Friday night. Forty-three were still dancing 20 hours later. The extra person was dancing with a broom. A total of $7,462 was raised in pledges. In 1981, 96 people raised $7,000 and "less than half the dancers raised more money," commented Kay Schmidt, chairperson of the event. Other prize winners for pledges were: Susan Powell, second highest raised $326 and won a $50 gift certificate from Ashtons. Third place winner was Lisa Weidner, Roosevelt, with $306.43. Blair Bent ley was fourth with $254.25 and Wendy Powell was fifth with $252. Allen Getchell, formerly from Duchesne, MDA poster child for Utah in 1981, came to the dance from Grand Junction. Kay Schmidt expressed her gratitude to all those who helped make the dance a success. Those assisting during the evening were Pat McBride, Steve and Camille Smith, Dale Larson, Lori Ross, Louis and Terrie Highes, Don and RayAnn DeCamp, and Brian and Connie Johnson.
