Show Society visits historical site Dart and Grace Hall hosted the Uintah Historical Society as they toured points of interest in Dry Fork, Dry Fork Mountain, Taylor Mountain and Brush Creek Mountains. A group of 20 members left the Golden Age Center Saturday, June 13, by bus and private autos. Erland Preece chauf-fered chauf-fered the bus. They stopped at the Daughters of Pioneer monument marking the boundaries of the old Fort Thornburg Military Reservation in Maeser. The McConkie Ranch in Dry Fork Canyon was visited next where Jean McKenzie, owner, showed the bullet ridden aspen trunk that was shot through by outlaws in the Matt Warner shooting of the 1890's. The point of Dry Fork Mountain east of the canyon where the killing occurred was viewed next with commentary com-mentary by Dan Hall, the tour guide. The group stopped briefly at the Dry Fork Cemetery then traveled up Dry Fork and Brownie Canyon where the location of the old gold mine diggings was visited. They stopped the site of the old ' Fork Sawmill and ! remnants of the old I Thornburg Road. Neil and Nina Caldv met the group at Brush Creek Mount Cattlemen's cow ca and told history of area. The group returned Vernal-Manila High at 5 p.m. |
