Show Industrial accidents injure two local men Two Vernal men were seriously injured in-jured in separate industrial accidents last week in the oil fields south of Ouray. Mitch Phillips, 21, of Vernal was draining a well of natural gas at the Natural Buttes well No. 782 when a gas line ruptured and caught fire. The fire burned the upper 45 percent of his body. He was transported to Ouray by Jerry Sheldon who was called by radio. From Ouray he was transported to the Uintah County Hospital in an ambulance. am-bulance. He suffered burns to his back, face and arms. His arms received the most severe burns. He was transported to the University of Utah Burn Center where he was reported to be in critical condition, con-dition, Tuesday. In another accident at Geokinctics, Thomas P. Matcho, Vernal, suffered a broken lower right leg and lacerations to the left hand. He was placing a radiator on a frame when the radiator fell on his left arm. His leg was caught between the frame and the radiator, and he grabbed a pifie to support himself until help arrived from other crewmen, reported the Uintah County Sheriff's office. He was transported to the Uintah County Hospital following the accident which occurred at about 11:30 a.m. June 11. lie was in the hospital a day before being released. |
