Show SKATING IK WAITING FOR GOLDWEATHER The skating rink in the City Park, sponsored by the American Legion and the P. T. A. is all ready for the flooding now, and as soon as cold enough weather to insure proper freezing arrives can be put into use. A large circular dike has been thrown up taking in almost the entire Ball Diamond in the center of the Park. In order to cause the least damage to the Ball Diamond, Dia-mond, a tractor was used, digging a narrow trench, and dyking the dirt just outside of it. The dirt can easily be pushed back into the trench in the spring, and only a little shale will have to be added to entirely replace the present fine condition of the diamond. Mr. Crocker, Legion Commander devoted a lot of personal time to this work, doing a good deal or it with the tractor, while some of the school boys were present with shovels, etc. putting the finishing touches to the work. Water for flooding the rink has not yet been provided for, but the Fire Department has volunteered to do this by pumping water from the nearby river if no other means are provided by the time freezing weather 13 at hand. The Fire Department, De-partment, by the way, has sometimes some-times received the brunt of thoughtless thou-ghtless comment, but we notice they are usually at hand to lend willing help on any worthwhile project. |
