Show Swimming Pool Is First Relief Project Cemetery Improvement Comes Next Other Projecs Pending Twelve men went to work Monday Mon-day morning on the new swiming pool in the City Park, under the C. W. A. Reemployment program. Seven other men, completing Duchesne's Du-chesne's quota of nineteen, were put to work on various projects outside of the city limits. Of the various projects submitted submitt-ed to the Central Relief Committee Committ-ee by the City Council, the swimming swimm-ing pool was chosen as the best to start on while warmer weather is still here. Improvements of the City Cemetery Cem-etery has also been approved, and will probably be started next week some time. This project includes dyking on the Northwest side to divert the. water which has been causing so much trouble during storms; graveling of streets and walks and the cleaning of brush. Other projects submitted to the Committee, but not yet approved by them include leveling and graveling grav-eling the school grounds, improvements improve-ments on the present City Water System, improvement of City streets st-reets and sidewalks, renovation of public buildings, (Schools, Town Hall and Court House) and the moving of the County Jail into the County garage. POOL SOON FINISHED Work on the Swiming Pool is progressing rapidly, under the efforts ef-forts of the twelve men.-and;four or five teams on the job. The old bend of the river, on the North side of the park is being cleaned out, and two dams built, so that there will be a first settling pool, extending westward to the present pre-sent driveway into the park, and f a second pool, which will be the swimming pool proper, directly east of the settling pool. This pool is approximately 150 feet long and will vary in depth from three feet at the West end to eight feet at the East end. After the construction and excavating ex-cavating are complete, shale and gravel will be hauled to cover the bottom and sides of the pool. The space between the pool and the park is also being leveled, and prepared for the sowing of lawn seed. This, with the lawn already sown earlier this year will make a large expanse of fine lawn for next year. At the rate this work is progressing it is expected that the project will be completed by the end of the week. USED AS SKATING RINK Although it is too late in the season for any benefits to be derived de-rived from the pool this year, it will undoubtedly be a great at-' at-' traction next summer, and brings the City Park to a state of perfection per-fection the citizens can well be proud of. It is expected that in future years the pool will be used as an ice skating rink during the winter months, thus doubling Its utility. |
