Show Police to "Pull the Slops" Against Drag Racers ; Problems with speeding ! and drag racing on City 1 streets came to a head this J week when the problem ! reached outlandish propor- tions. City Councilamn Jack West reported at Chamber of Commerce meeting on Tuesday that complaints had been received from all over the City during the past few weeks and a crackdown by law enforcement officers is now at hand. West stated that some residents res-idents have been bothered by the racing and loud mufflers muf-flers at all hours of the night and city officers have been told to pull all stops in correcting cor-recting the situation. The Councilman continued that the City PoMce radar unit will be used extensively from this time on to control the speeding and that violators of the speed laws will be ticketed. ' " The new radar unit cur-renlv cur-renlv used bv the Citv Pnitpp is portable, Councilman West said, and it can be taken almost al-most anywhere. In addition, he stated, it is effective at night and will be used extensively ex-tensively in the evening and nighttime hours. West also indicated that the new unit is capable of recording speed from e'ither direction. The unit does not have to be facing an oncoming car to be operable, he said. |
