Show Park Visitation in Area Released, Shows Gain Visitation figures released this week by Canyonlands National Park heauquarters in Moab showed a substantial substan-tial drop in travel at the , Island in the Sky Section of the park. All other areas, however, which comprise the Canyonlands Complex still showed increases over last year's figures. At Island in the Sky, only 1,939 persons visited during August, compared with 4,121 during the same month last year. This is a drop of 53 per cent. Totals for tne year, however are still above those of last year with 20,842 persons per-sons visitingduring 1972, as compared With oruy 17,4ti8 a year ago. In the Needles Section of Canyonlands, there were 4,-269 4,-269 persons who visited during dur-ing August compared with 3,i04 tor the same month last year, an increase of 12 per cent. Totals for the year reflect an 8 per cent increase with 27,366 visitors so iar this year compared with 25,409 for the f.rst eight months of last year. Arches National Park showed show-ed a seven per cent increase in visitation lor August with 37,540 . visitors. The same month last year showed 35,-223 35,-223 persons visiting in the park. For the first eight months of 19i2, there have been 184,991 persons visiting at Arches compared witn 162,506 tor the same period last year. Natural Bridges National Monument showed an increase in-crease of 11 per cent for the month with 9,552 visitors, compared with 8,601 for last August. Totals for the year show a 30 per cent increase with 46,127 visitors compared compar-ed with 35,365 last year. |
