Paul's start in mining at M.nes is (!.'. fii-st of many to be made possible by a Texas Gulf soliolarship. Applications Ap-plications are now b.uig taken for the a-holarship to be awarded for the 1973 74 academic year. First preference for the scholarship award will be given to children of JG employees. em-ployees. The Colorado School of Mines offers degrees in engineering i chemical, geo-l.g.cal, geo-l.g.cal, ge-o physical, metallurgical, metal-lurgical, mining or petroleum, petrol-eum, chemistry, mathematics mathema-tics and physics. All natural or adopted dependent children child-ren of employees in the U. S.. Canada and overseas will be eligible to apply for the scholarship. Students who are not children child-ren of Texas Gulf employees will be eligible for an engineering en-gineering scholarship only when no qualified TG children child-ren apply. One new award will be made each year. Recipients may renew their scholarship annually for three additional years if their academic performance per-formance continues to be satisfactory. The Colorado School of Mines' scholarship committee and the Dean of Students will make both the initial selection and renewal decisions. II an award is not renewed, it will be granted to another student for that ear. The scholarship award pays the cost of full tuition which will be approximately $ 1 .800 per year for out of-state of-state students in the 1973 74 academic year. The children of Texas Gulf employees interested in ap-plymg ap-plymg for the 1973-74 sclwl-arship sclwl-arship should have the necessary nec-essary forms submitted to the Colorado School of Mines before February 1, 1973. Scholarship candidates must complete, or have completed, complet-ed, the following two forms: (1) Application for admission to Colorado Collegiate Institutions; Insti-tutions; (2) Application for financial aid andor scholar, ships. TG employees located locat-ed in Alberta, Lee Creek, Moab, Newgulf and Timniins can obtain those forms from their divisional Employee Relations Department while TG employees at other locations lo-cations may obtain the two applications directly from the Corporate Employee Relations Rela-tions Department. One application form asks for the student's Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) andor American College Test (AC T) scores. Some of our employees' em-ployees' children may not have taken either of these two tests, but they probably have taken the tests of the Service for Admissions to College and University (SA CI"). SACU scores are ac cepted in lieu of SAT and ACT scores at the Colorado School of Mines and should be reported on the application applica-tion form. If a student has not taken an SAT, ACT, or SACU test, he should report the scores of the tests he has taken because they too might be acceptable. Students Stu-dents without SAT, ACT, or SACU scores should arrange to take SAT to be certain that appropriate evidence of scholastic achievement will be available to the Colorado School of Mines. SAT information and SAT registration forms are generally gen-erally available at local high schools. If not available there, students should write directly to the nearest College Col-lege Entrance Examination Board and request the data. The two addresses are: (1) College Entrance Examination Ex-amination Board; Box 1025 Berkeley, California 91701. (2) College Entrance Ex-animation Ex-animation Board; Box 592, Princeton, New Jersey 08540. The latest SAT testing date which will enable students stu-dents to qualify for the 1973-74 1973-74 scholarship is March 3, 1973. The final registration date for this test will be February 8, 1973. The two application forms should be returned to the Colorado School of Mines before be-fore February 1, 1973. Students Stu-dents planning to take tha March 3rd SAT should state this fact on the application form but they too should meet the February 1st deadline. dead-line. It is expected that the announcement an-nouncement designating the recipient of the scholarship award will be made in May, 1973. |
