Show Operation Golden Eagle Underway in MPS Area Operation Golden Eagle ,is now in full swing in National Na-tional Park Service areas, Mr. Frank F. Kowski, director di-rector of the National Park Service's Southwest Region, under the Department of the Interior, announced recently. re-cently. Operation Golden Eagle is the Federal Recreation , 'Entrance Fee System for calendar year 1971 as authorized auth-orized by the Congress. The Golden Eaigl'e Pass-porti, Pass-porti, which, sells for $10, provides year-long1 access to all designated Federal recreation arteas where entrance en-trance fees are charged. It admits the purchaser and all persons accompanying him in one private 'noncom-irfercial 'noncom-irfercial vehicle. Park visitors who do not .purchase the annual permit are charged $1 to $3 per day for motor vehicle entry en-try to such areas. All visi tors to National Park Service Ser-vice areas, including Golden Gold-en Eagle Passport holders, who use special facilities and services such as developed devel-oped campgrounds, guide Service and elevator service are charged additional fees. Camping fees range from ?1 to $3 per night, depending depend-ing on facilities offered. Some changes in group camping fees will be made, effective July 1. All NPS areas in tlie Southwest Region Re-gion will charge $5 per group to ten persons, and ?0.50 per person over ten. CunfentJy, in effect in sev-ral sev-ral aras, these fees will apply ap-ply in all NPS campgrounds an the Southwest where group fees are charged. However, all visitors under un-der 16 years of age are exempt ex-empt from paying fees, as are groups or persons on educational, scientific, and thteraputic visits sponsored by bona fide institutions. For example, an organzed school group accompanied by an instructor, studying conservation practices, natural nat-ural history, geology, ecology, eco-logy, or similar subjects would be texempt, while a school picnic would not. Sponsors of groups should make advance ' arrange- ments since some areas require re-quire reservations for group camping. Revenues in the Land and . Water Conservation Fund are earmarked by law for outdoor recreation. Revenues from sales of $10 Golden Eagle Passports, daily permits, and . other fees are used to provide additional ad-ditional lands for Federal' recreation areas; or are apportioned ap-portioned to the States where they are matched by State or local funds to provide pro-vide near-to-home outdoor T'ecreation.
