Show July 4th Celebrated At Hanksville Independence Day wus celebrated in Hanksville cti the 3rd with the entire community, com-munity, along with many from Bicknell, Loa, Gre;n River and Bull Frog in at t'endence. The day begat., when residents were aroused ar-oused from sleep from blasts of TNT S'-t off o?. Pookie Hill south of totvn at 5:30 a.m. Sunrise service and flag raising was held at the school at 6 a.m. A patriotic program began the day at 10 followed by a community dinner of ham and turkey and all the trimmings at the church at noon. After dinnter settled, settl-ed, the concession booths opened and there was 'iv erything from fish ponds, to pie eating contests to greased pig chases. The adults and youngsters en-y'oyed en-y'oyed a movie, "Tonka," during the heat of tin.- day and joined up again for a scftball game with a pretty close score. The dance be gan in the eening with music by Darys and Perry Ekker, Greg Hunt r.nd Grant Maxfield. Miss Hanksville, Hank-sville, Elaine Johnson wss icrowned along with hei ifour attedants, Neva and Rita Ekker, Bonnie Noyes and Donna Holt. The proceeds pro-ceeds of the entire celebration celebra-tion on the 3rd went towards to-wards the building fund for the ntew recreational hall on the newly dedicated LDS chapel. Bishop Jackson Jack-son stated that $500 was raised before the dance donations do-nations had been counted. He thanked everyoire for their time and contribu-ions contribu-ions to make the day a success. |
