Show Fire Danger Remains Critical In SE Utah Mountain Area Fire danger on the LaSal Mountains this week remains re-mains critical, although cooler weather has been forecast. Forester Jerry Hofer stated this week that conditions would remain extreme until a general rain is received. Lasti weekend, Forest Service . crews,: including four men from the Caribou and Targhee National For-tesls For-tesls in Idaho patrolled the LaSals to check for compliance com-pliance with fire restrictions restric-tions which are now in effect ef-fect on ' the mountain. Th men reported that several campfires had been . abandoned aban-doned and were put out. Several people were also - found with campfires outside out-side designated campground areas and in view, of the, fire restrictions, this is now illegal. One fire in the Medicine Lake area was found by i crews last Thursday shorty ' Iy after it had started. 'Quick work by the men -contained it to," several trees covering about one-tenth one-tenth of an acre. The fire, it was stated, was the result re-sult of a campfire left by the lake. It was just coin- cidental, Hofer stated, that the men happened upon the fire at tihe timte they did or it could have become a major fire within a short time. Monticello is also presently pres-ently under fire restrictions and people using . either Forest area should observe the restrictions and not - build fires in places other than grills in designated campgrounds. On the La-Sal La-Sal Mountains, the only plac'es where campfires are legal at this time are at Oowah, Warner, Pack Creek and Buckeye Reser- voir. The LaSals will be patrolled and persons vio- lating the restriction will be cited. Anyone .who sees a fire on the mountain should contact the Forest Service office during the day or the Sheriff's office after 5 p.m. |
