Show - - - -- massive undertaking It takes only a short drive around Moab to realize real-ize what a major undertaking the current special improvement im-provement project has been for Moab City. Hardly a block in Moab was neglected in the city-wide project, aimed at not only providing curb and gutter and road improvements where needed, but improving flood drainage drain-age systems so that property owners might get some relief from the damaging flood runoff peculiar to August Aug-ust and September in the community. Because of the inconvenience caused cross-town travelers, tra-velers, dusty conditions plaguing property owners and changes in drainage lines that cither raised or lowered street levels in front of homes and businesses, the City has been in for its share of criticism both serious and in jest during the past few months. We would venture to guess that the Mayor's telephone has been kept busy answering questions and complaints from harried har-ried residents of the community. The results of the efforts, however, are beginning to become obvious. With paving of streets now near the half-way point, the improvement is tremendous. It will take a little time before disrupted property lines begin to look normal again, but that will come. Benefits to communities, we arc convinced, do not come to those towns which simply sit and wait for them. Complaining about the good fortune of a neighboring community and doing little to improve your own lot, is a poor way to set the stage for progress. Moab sits in one of the most beautiful settings imaginable. As one wag stated : "If there weren't a town here, it would make a darn good national park." It behooves the residents , and property owners of the connmmity to" make thcir's as. much' of a compliment to the rirrounding terrain as possible. And that appears ap-pears to have been the motive of city fathers the past Jew years. Wc compliment Mayor Bunce and the City Council Coun-cil for their foresight and concern. This year of community com-munity progress - in the face of employment cutbacks cut-backs is a tribute to their faith and imagination. |
