Show Muddv Roads Await Deer Hunters Utah big game hunters take to the hills in force this weekend with the opening of the annual deer season. Some 5,000 shooters are expected on the LaSals alone. Conservation Conser-vation officers across the state are currently doing pre-hunting pre-hunting season classification counts on all deer units over the state. Final ratios of bucks, does and fawns will not be known until the counts terminate at the start of the general hunting season on Saturday. Local conservation officer, Clair Davis reported this week that the herd on the LaSals looks especially good this year with a good percentage percen-tage of twins at the side of does. A large number of big bucks have also been spotted, officer Davis stated. Last year hunter success on the LaSals was about 60 per cent, traditionally above the state average. With heavy rains during the past week, hunters should be prepared for slick roads. Weather forecasts for the coming weekend indicate that more inclement weather can be expected. Forest Service officials reported this week that roads on the mountain are in very poor condition and chains and preferable four-wheel-drive are a must for the hunter going afield. All hunters are urged to use extreme caution in driving on the mountain during the coming com-ing season.
