Johnson : alsn won the low hurdles and ran a lap on the win- ning mile relay team. The Red Devils will defend their Mesa Invitational title this week in Grand Junction. Devils Win Opening Track Meet '7 The Red Devil Track - team handily won their own track meet held in Moab last week. Hosting Carbon High of Price. San Juan of Hlanding. Green River ' and Monticello. the Red Devils coasted to an easy win in most events held. Needed strength was picked up in the field events as Greg Holland won the Javalin with a toss of l.54'6". Holland also won the 880 yard run with a time of 2.04.7. anchored the mile relay team. Kric Daniels of Moab finished second behind Rodney Silliman of Green River in the shot put. Silliman had a mark of 43'4" Kim "Bo" Johnson of Moab was the surprise winner in the 440 yard dash as he upset teammate team-mate and state champion in that event. Steve Stout. Johnson's time was 53.6 with Stout one tenth of a second behind. Greg Gerber of Moab finished fourth in that event. Johnson also won the 180 low hurdles with a time of 22.7 and was a member mem-ber of the mile relay team. Mark Riley nipped Stout again in the 100 yard dash as they put on a great race for the spectators. Riley and Stout both are members of the w inning mile relay team. Mark Riley, along w ith winning the 100 yard dash and running a strong leg on the relay teamtook the 220 yard dash with a time of23.7. Riley also won the long jump with a distance of 20 5" with Steve Stout second. Yon Isaman won the 120 yard high hurdles with a time of 17.1. easily beating all competitors. Isaman also finished second in the high jump and third in the 180 high hurdles. t ne nine run was won by Ryan Modesto of Moab with a time of 4:42.6. Tim Palmer of San Juan finished second in that event and Van Mays and Jerry Cowan of Moab finished fourth and fifth in that event. The pole vault was won by Ron Howen of Moab and Robert Ro-bert Irish of Moab finished fin-ished third in the discus. The 2 mile run was added to the State Track events this vear and Mark Bradford of Monticello Mon-ticello won that event with a time of 10:40.4. Totals for the meet were as expected with Moab on top with 117 total points. Carbon High of Price finished second with Green River coming in third in a strong showing show-ing for them. San Juan finished fourth and Monticello Mon-ticello fifth as the lack of depth hurt these schools. |
