Show THROUGH THE FILES Of THE TIMES-INDEPENDENT AND THE GRAND VALLEY TIMES 20 Years Ago The city offices this week announced that the Moab City Council would meet in a special session to hear Engineer Engin-eer Davis Holder's report on the completion of the Moab sewage treatment plant. Voters of Moab would go to the polls after the most active municipal election in the history his-tory of the city. A record number of voters had regis-j regis-j tered for the election and the largest voter turnout in Mo-ab's Mo-ab's history was predicted. 40 Years Ago The present mayor and city council were returned to office of-fice at the token municipal election. An exceptionally light vote was cast. Favorable headway was being be-ing made in drilling the offset well on Cane Creek dome, below Moab on the Colorado river. Three shifts of drillers were at work and the depth waj reported to be below 500 feet. The losing side in a bridge contest at the Double Jitney club entertained winners at a Halloween party at the home of Mrs. R.J. Fletcher. 60 Years Ago All women of the nation were urged to register on Nov. 10 for war service. A school had been opened at Big Indian with 21 pupils enrolled. Laura Wimmer was the teacher. |
