Grand County Commissioners drove to San Juan County Monday evening for the special joint session to discuss the possible annexation to benefit citizens living in northen San Juan and to facilitate road maintenance on the La Sal Mountain loop road. The piece of land under discussion includes an area extending extend-ing south to about the top of Blue Hill, according to Boyle. Grand County Commission Chairman Leo Burr said the parcel is projected to include Pack Creek Ranch, but not to extend as far east as the Colorado state line. He expressed pleasure that all commissioners involved were in favor of the proposed annexation. Grand and San Juan County Attorneys and Surveyors have now been authorized to meet together to define and map out the exact area of land, and to work out the legal aspects of the proposal. One resident of the area in question, upon learning of the annexation proposal, commented, "I .'s terrible to be disenfranchised. All of our ties and interests are to Gr ind County, but we haven't been abK' to vote here," expanding fur (kt on the plight of those citi .ens being if one lived in the extreme north of San Juan County and wanted to get involved in politics or run for office, one simply coulu not. The annexation issue will have to be approved by the voters of both counties in the next general election, and will also have to be approved by the Utah Legislature before Spanish Valley area residents resi-dents become an official part of Grand County. |
