Show Senior Citizens will involve in new exercise program Grand County Senior Citizens Citi-zens will be trying out a new exercise program next Tuesday, Tues-day, Jan. 17, at 1:30 p.m. in the Senior Citizens Center. The program is under the direction of the Southeastern Utah Health District. Cal Cazier, Community Health Educator for the district, dis-trict, is very excited about the new program and he feels that it could ultimately lead to better health and strength for senior citizens. He observed, "So often our seniors lose interest in so many things, including wanting to get up and out. Our exercise program pro-gram has already been very successful in East Carbon and Price, and we hope that it will encourage senior citizens to walk more and exercise at home." The particular exercise program pro-gram used is a program updated and revised by the state health department and includes 14 exercises set to music. The program takes about 20 minutes to complete. On Tuesday, Dr. Craig Cal-der. Cal-der. Executive Director of the Governor's Council on Physical Physi-cal Fitness, and Roger Fre-und, Fre-und, an 80-year old group leader, will introduce the exercises ex-ercises to Grand County's senior citizens. The Health District is hoping hop-ing that some interested local senior will keep the ball rolling and lead the program at least once a week. Mr. Cazier said that the ultimate goal is for the group to practice at least 3 times weekly. It is not absolutely necessary, neces-sary, however, for the seniors to meet as a group to do the exercise program. The standing stand-ing and sitting exercises are just as easily done at home, and copies of the cassette music tape will be available at cost-about $1, according to Cazier. It should only take a month or two for noticeable results stated Mr. Cazier. He said that some of the seniors in East Carbon who started at the beginning of December have noticed that their muscles mus-cles are not as sore and that some who could not touch the floor when bending over are much closer to doing so. He encouraged all Moab seniors to give the program a try. |
