Show Bad weather figured in three accidents Three accidents in the area were investigated last week during the wet, snowy weather, weath-er, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. On Jan. 5 at 6:30 a.m. 3 miles north of Moab, Lynn Lee, 46, Blanding, driving a 1975 OldsmobOe, was driving north and went around a curve near Arches Headquarters Headquar-ters on. U.S. 163. He lost control on the slick road, and his vehicle rolled on its top. There was about $2,400 damage, dam-age, according to Sgt. Claude Lacy, who investigated. On Jan. 6 at 2 p.m. 26 miles north of Monticello on U.S. 163 there was another accident. accid-ent. William Payne, Las Cru-ces, Cru-ces, N.M., was driving north in a 1972 Ford tractor and trailer owned by Yucca Moving Mov-ing and Storage, Las Cruces. He told investigating Trooper Bob Lowe he tapped the brakes to test the road surface, sur-face, and the unit jackknifed and went through the guard rail and down the embankment embank-ment on the left. There was $2,000 damage to the vehicle and $750 da mage to the guard rail. Payne was cited for excessive speed for existing conditions. That same day at 5:30 p.m. 13 miles south of Moab, Michael Mich-ael Jacobs, 30, Moab was driving south in a 1949 Dodge. Ross Irvin, 23, Arlington, Tex., was driving north in a 1972 Oldsmobile. He was pas- ; sing another vehicle, came ; over a hill and saw the Jacobs vehicle ahead. Irvin lost control and ran off the left shoulder of the road, and the vehicles collided. There was about $1,100 damage dam-age to the Dodge and about $1,000 damage to the Olds- ; mobile, and Irvin was cited for driving on the wrong side of the highway by investigating Trooper Lynn Pehrson. Nei- ; ther driver was injured. |
