GRHS Cheerleaders had a lot to cheer about last week as the first session of the new year got underway. On Friday afternoon, the wrestling team met the Altamont Longhorns on the home floor and came out on top 48-18. Coach Bill Bacon reported the team is doing very well, and this is probably the best group he's worked with. Jerry Womack, wrestling at 155 pounds, is undefeated except for one forfeit because of a sprained ankle. Other team members are Trujillo, Byron Bastian, Albert Lucero, Doug Parks, Buff Price, Kelly Reay, Levi Allen, Ken Allen, Greg Hatfield, Hat-field, Paul Bowerman, Richard Rich-ard Faust, and Reo Prator. The Pirates will be hosting a tournament on January 14 at 2 p.m. in the gym, with East Carbon, Altamont, Tabiona and Green River participating. participat-ing. Plan to attend! The basketball team began Region 10 competition by easily defeating the Tabiona Tigers 72-41 before an appreciative appre-ciative home crowd. Greg Vetere was high point man with 19, closely followed by Mitch Vetere with 17. The three other starters were Royd Hatt, Tab Weihing and Kerry Bigelow, with Dave Simonson, Cory Vetere, Mike Evans, Dusty Hansen and Darrell Mecham seeing action in the last quarter. Mr. Stan Parsons is the basketball coach with Mr. Ed StaJter as his assistant, and Shawn Ac-erson Ac-erson as manager. The Lady Pirates played one of their most exciting games on Thursday before finally bowing to a tall and tough Grand Junction team. Candee Vetere sank two foul shots at the end of regulation play to send the game into overtime. At the end of the three minute period, another foul sent Candee to the line again for two more shots to lie the game and put it into the second overtime period. With just seconds left, the Grand Junction team went up by two, and the final score was 51-49. Stan Parsons is also the girls' coach and he will be taking both teams to Duchesne Du-chesne Friday, Jan. 13, for their next games. Cheerleaders Re nee Halt. Jeanne Lasso n, Dawna Wilcox, Wil-cox, Julie Duncan. Tonya King. Joni Banasky, Candee Vetere and Jo Simonson have had lots to cheer about this week. Plan to join them when the Pirates play again.
