Show Local officials reviewed grant j applications with consultant j Members of the Grand County Economic Development Commit- tee, along with Grand County and I Moab City officials met Monday j night with consultant, James Irwin, J who has been retained to help the I Moab area in seeking federal grant j money for a variety of projects. I Sponsoring agencies for the J vasriety of project have been determined, with projects being split between City and County for j sponsorship. Sponsoring agencies I are the actual applicants for grant j money, and are responsible for developing matching money for I various projects. I Already submitted to the J Farmer Home Administration is an ! application for grants and loans to fund the Spanish Valley Sewer Improvement project. If approved I by the federal agency for funding, I work can begin soon on the j extension of sewer lines to . residents of Spanish Valley. The lines would be tied into the City of I Moab system, and the Moab City I sewage disposal plant. J If that grant is approved, a similar application will be approved to FmHA and to other agencies for grant money to begin the construction construc-tion of a culinary water system in the Valley. Being readied for submission now to the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation, is an application for a new, Olympic size swimming pool facility. It was noted by City officials attending the meeting, that during the last summer, many children were turned away from the Moab Swim Center because of a lack of space. Additional families moving into the community, and the prospect of a large new industry coming soon, make this need fairly critical, the officials stated. An application is also being prepared for submission to the Economic Development Administration Adminis-tration for funds for a community center building, and r. Irwin is presently developing ideas on seeking federal grant money for a new Senior Citizens Center. Conducting the Monday meeting meet-ing was Russ Donoghue, chairman of the Economic Development Committee. BB MB X B SB SB |
