Show Red Cross Gains "Transfusion" The Grand County Red Cross Chapter, out of funds and in deficit for bloodmobiles for past years, has received a lifesaving transfusion of funds, to keep the bloodmobile coming to Moab. In response to the Emergency Emergen-cy Red Cross Fund Drive, a letter was received from Real People Press, signed by John O. Stevens, which read, "Enclosed is a donation of $500. with the understanding understand-ing that it is to be applied first' to cover the costs of bringing the bloodmobile to Moab next Spring, with the balance to be applied to deficits of past years' blood collecting. "Furthermore, for each unit of blood collected over 100 units (next Spring) Real People Press will contribute an additional $5.00." Chapter Secretary Betty Bowen said, "We are so excited about this very generous gener-ous donation. It will solve our immediate problem about the bloodmobile, and will make a substantial payment on back monies due." She said also that a number of other donations have been pledged or received, and that a list of these will be made public. She also emphasized that 1 there are many phases of the Red Cross program active in Grand County in addition to the bloodmobile. The water safety program teaches swimming swim-ming and a large number of certificates are awarded to young swimmers each year through the program. The armed forces program offers aid in many forms to servicemen service-men and their families. The first aid program offers first aid training courses of three different types at no cost to organizations. And the disaster disast-er program plans for necessary action in case of a local disaster. All of these programs also need funding, said Mrs. Bowen. She said that if persons specify that their donations are for the Emergency Emer-gency Red Cross Fund for Grand County, all of the funds will remain with the local chapter. Donations may be made by sending them to Grand County Red Cross, 125 East Center, Moab, Utah 84532. |
