Show Potential Boys Staters Get Legion Information For the purpose of insuring that every Grand County High School Junior boy gets the opportunity to attend the American Legion Boys State in 1976, Post 54 is sending a letter to each one. This is a direct invitation to work toward being selected. The student's response and subsequent activity will be used in making the final selection. It is hoped that this might also motivate some of the students to put just a little bit more into their school work, thereby getting more out of it. Mothers, sweethearts and friends arc urged to help their choice of candidate in preparing to be selected. In order to be selected, boys must meet these basic qualifications qualifi-cations and requirements: possess leadership qualities as exemplified by school activities; activi-ties; have a good scholastic record reflecting his best efforts; have a sincere desire to attend Boys State; have no serious breaches of any law; have no entanglements with illegal drugs, including alcohol; alco-hol; and be available to attend Boys State the first full week in June, 1976. Boys must write a letter no later than Dec. 15, 1975, expressing an interest; and no later than March 15, 1976, must write another letter stating why they think they should be selected, and the qualifications they possess which make them eligible. Number of boys selected from the various locations is based on the number of the local Legion membership, and it appears currently that 10 boys may be selected to attend from Grand County High. The letter written from American Legion Post 54 stated in part: "You must first consider whether you wish to try for this honor and begin now to put that extra effort into your school studies and play which will improve your chances for selection." The letter also said, "Former Boys Staters will assure you. ..that the rewards derived from attending Boys State are well worth the effort." |
