Show Bwck Hunt Opener Reported Good Upstate Despite bluebird weather, Utah's duck hunt got off to a good start on the opener this year along the Wasatch Front. Statewide, hunters averaged averag-ed just over two birds the-beginning the-beginning day. according to Al Regenthal. Division of Wildlife Resources principal waterfowl biologist. "Considering the fact we had 80 degree I 1 weather, and the large number of hunters out, more than two ducks per hunter is a very good starter." he added. Specifically. Ogden Bay's 2.500 hunters averaged just over three ducks each on Saturday. On Harold Crane and Salt Creek, hunters took almost three and a half birds a piece. Farmington Bay hosted nearly 3.600 waterfowl, who bagged an average of 2.25 ducks. The opener was marred for manv responsible sportsmen by the early shooting, particulars- on Ogden Bay where hunting began at 11:30 and at Howard Slough where shooters shoot-ers opened the season 20 minutes early. Numerous citations cita-tions were written out for such violations. The second day's hunting success was down some as expected. Less than half as many scattergunners showed up on the marshes and bagged 1.8 birds each. Recent cooler weather should result in better waterfowl water-fowl hunting conditions. |
