Show Chamber Charts Membership Drive iu This Friday and - Saturday Budgetary matters were the primary topic of discussion dis-cussion at the Tuesday jijuncheon -of the Moab Chamber of Commerce, with President Blaine M. Shields in charge of discussion dis-cussion of the proposed changes in the budget. Income for the 1971 year, is hoped to be in the neighborhood of $17,000, according to Shields, with thq bulk of this amount coming from the sale of general memberships, $9,-510 $9,-510 proposed. The City is expected to spend $1,500; for membership with the County furnishing an additional ad-ditional $3,500. Cooperative Coopera-tive advertising will provide pro-vide the remaining $2,500. Last year, $6,000 was proposed for general members mem-bers Mips, howetver only $4,875 was actually collected. col-lected. President Shields jstlated that this amount wrould have to be exceeded exceed-ed if the Chamber was to accomplish all it hoped to d'uring the coming year. Brochures & Salaries In the expenditures col-, umn, the bulk of the $17,-C10 $17,-C10 budget will be spent on tourist brochures and salaries sal-aries and taxes, with the brochures claiming $5,300 for a total of ' 100,0001 of the circulars; and $6,500 is to be spent for salaries and taxes. The remaining $4,650 of the budgeted $16,450 will be used to cover expenses such as postage, office supplies, travel, rent, tel- . ephone, meals, and cooperative coop-erative advertising. Left uhibudgeted to cover any miscellaneous expenses is $550. This wekend, Friday and Saturday will mark the. beginning of the campaign to 'solicit memberships for the coming year. The Chamber will be holding a kickoff breakfast on both ' Friday and Saturday mornings mor-nings at 8 a.m. at Pear- ' sons Family Restaurant,, after which members will begin their canvass of lo. cal businesses. President Shields indicated that all businesses would be contacted con-tacted as well as several individuals. In other business, the directors moved to table plans for construction of a combination Chamber office visitor information center north of town until more discussion about securing se-curing funding can be had. Plan for Signs Plans to erect signs at Miller's Shopping Center's south entrance were discussed dis-cussed with President Shtlelds suggesting that two 4x8 foot signs be put up to guide tourists to the information office. The need for repainting the present pre-sent Chamber sign and the need for another sign north of town was also mentioned mention-ed with the possibility of exchanging the sign painting paint-ing for Chamber membership member-ship stated as being the most practical means of obtaining the information boards. Marvin Jensen of the Bureau of Land Management Manage-ment told Chamber members mem-bers of the BLM's work on providing signing for the dinosaur tracks near here. Jensen indicated that ths Bureau now had obtained a one board sign for locating lo-cating the tracks. He also stated that he would be contacting the County in the near future concerning concern-ing road work in the r.rea of the tracks. Jeap Safari liar-old Jacobs told tiiv members that he had started start-ed work on the 1971 Jeep Safari and that Jack West and Denny Walsh werj aiding him in the committee commit-tee work for the Safari. Jacobs also mentioned that the rim read which is located on the cliffs west of town could be made into a scenic drive for most four wheel drive .vehicles with some work. He stated that at present, only short-wheel base vehicles ve-hicles are able to travel the road. According to. Jacobs, about three or four weekends involving 20 tr 25 men would be required to do the blasting, cementing cement-ing and rock removal that would be necessary to fix the road. Marvin Jensen of the BLM indicated that a jack-hammer jack-hammer could be made available from the local BLM office for some of the work. Jensen also stated sta-ted that the Bureau plans to do seme repair work on the Pritchett Arch trail used in the Jeep Safari to make the route safer.
