Show Hew Navigation Seer ' At Airport Oneratinq The new omni range TVOR station, installed in November just west of Canyoniands Field, was commissioned by the FAA Jan. 9 and is now in use. The new facility offers -fliers much more accurate information for landings, and has allowed the reduc. lion of landing approach visibility limits from 3 omiles and 1230 feet to 1 imile and 666 feet. This reduction re-duction comes from the highly accurate 360 degree de-gree azmuth of the installation, in-stallation, which operates on a frequency of 109.8. Distance measuring equipment equip-ment is tentatively scheduled sched-uled for installation in July, and will Tower the approach visibility limits even further. The station will appear on all new airway charts, and draw many small private pri-vate aircraft to Canyon-lands Canyon-lands Field who have not heretofore made use of the facilities there. It will eventually be tied into the omni system across the country. State Aeronautics officials offic-ials are scheduled to meet with FAA officials in the near future to discuss details de-tails involved in operating the station remote from Grand Junction. Remote control from Grand Junction Junc-tion would enable pihils on the ground at Canyon-lands Canyon-lands Field to talk directly to Walker Field officials. The current situation is that pilots must cither call long distance to Grand Junction from Canyoniands ' Field, or they must take off and attain a certain altitude before 'they can get in touch with the airport air-port there for the purpose of obtaining weather information in-formation or filing flight plans. |
