Show Letters to the Editor . . . Dear Sam: 1 still believe in mental telepathy! While you were writing your comments in tribute to our departed leader, Mars Pope, essentially the very same thoughts were going through my mind. And I'll bet many of the "old timers" of Moab were sharing our nostalgic memories of Mars Pope. Utah Power & Light Co. will never have a public relations representative like Mars Pope. I can remember when the light bill was 75 cents a month and many a housewife kept the money saved in a sugar bowl waiting for Mr. Pope to make a personal collection. He usually stopped to chat a bit and everyone enjoyed his visits. When the light bill jumped to $1.50 Mars Pope was there to soften the blow and explain why the raise had to be made. But we all understood how necessary it was to improve the electric utility in our area. As you said, Sam, there were other pioneers who helped build the electric utility to what it is today, but "Mars is the one we knew and were proud to know." Sincerely. Rosalie Robertsor Dear Sam: It was with great sadness that we came to Moab. but we left with a warm feeling in our hearts to find thast Roy had so many friends there.
