Show t i - , - i First Girl All-Star .. . Because she played ball with her brother, Royd, as soon as she was old enough to throw a ball, and had become exceptionally good at it, Renee Hatt decided last year to try out for Little League. She was a bit hesitant, so enlisted the help of her father Rey Lloyd Hatt, mayor of Green River, who found no resistance to her trying out. She showed up well, and played on a team last year. This year she racked up enough points to make the All-Star team, which entered the play-offs at Helper the fore part of the month. "Renee started the game for Green River by singling as the leadoff batter in the first inning, then cracked a double in the third inning and was on base in the fifth on an error to prove the fairer sex can play baseball with" the boys," according to the report of the game in the Helper Journal. She collected three hits, was safe twice on errors, scored a run and tallied one RBI a record to be proud of in All-Star play. She has the reputation 'of being a stable, dependable player in First Base position and left field. This is Renee's last season on. the diamond; like a lot of the rest of us, old age has caught up with her. She is 12 years old now, and since there is no pony league in Green River, Renee has hung up her spikes, a winner all around. (Helper Journal Photo) |
