Show Filing Deadlines Announced For City Elections Petitions are now available at the City Offices for those wishing to run for the office of City Councilman this year. At the general election Nov. 4, three councilmen will be elected. Those whose terms are up this year are Dick Hammer, Harold Jacobs and I. D. Nightingale, who was appointed by the council to fill the unexpired term of W. D. McDougald when he was elected Mayor. The last day for filing for election will be Oct. 7. Within 15 days before that date, candidates must present their petitions, signed by 100 registered voters of the City of Moab. Voter registration in the various precincts will be held Oct. 14 and 28, and any qualified person may also register on any other weekday during office hours at the County Clerk's office up until 10 days before the election. In previous city election years, the Citizens Party has convened to elicit and support candidates for city office. Fred Lathrop, chairman of the Citizens Party, stated Wednesday Wed-nesday that party officers will meet to determine action this year. The law requires city judges to be elected at regular municipal elections. However, i it also provides that petitions I for city judges must be presented in July; and if no more than one qualified candidate presents a petition, that candidate will automatically automatic-ally assume the office. Since City Judge Don Crist was the only candidate for city judge, he has been certified as elected, as provided by law, and his name will not appear on the November ballot. |
