Show Outpatient Service Rates Take Jump at Hospital Increased operating costs have made it necessary to establish a higher charge for outpatient services provided pro-vided by the Allen Memorial Memor-ial hospital, according to wordi receded this week from administrator, V. A. Piuls. The increase is in addition addi-tion to the new rates which have been used for in-patient services since January 1 of this year. Effective April 1, the minimum mi-nimum out-patient service charge, applicable to all visits vis-its " to the emergency department, de-partment, will 'be $4. This is. a one dollar increase over the basic 53 charge which has been in effect for a number of years. '-'Mr. Pauls emphasized that the out-patent charge is ' a service charge only. It does not include charges that will 'be applied for treatment administered or supplies used. It covers administrative ad-ministrative costs arising from the liability of the hospital to maintain accur-ae accur-ae and complete records of every service provided in or on the hospital property. It is the responsibility of ithe hospital, he said, assumed as-sumed with the establishment establish-ment of the emergency department, de-partment, to provide the needed care and treatment to any individual who considers con-siders himself acutely ill or injured, and who comes or is brought to, the facility. Such care and treatment will be provided only on, and in accordance with, the advice of a doctor. It is the responsibility of the doctors comprising the medical staff of the hospital to provide that a doctor will be available, or make himself him-self available, to appraise the need and advise the care and treatment indicated. indicat-ed.
