Andrew of Warren a few daye ago wai convicted con-victed of murdering Amann deepite hia vigoroug protests of innocence of the crime. H. O. 6'ileox. n Philadelphia defective, defec-tive, testified at the hearing that Mrs. Hodge told him on the night of the killing aha waa riding with Amann. Amann left the carriage to" walk to reservoir, where b waa employed, to look thing over. Mr. Hodge aaid (he was afraid to be alone in thj dark, and asked him if he kad revolver. Amann handed her an automatic pistol pis-tol and went away to attend to his' duties. When he returned to the carriage car-riage the horse became frightened and Amann grabbed for the bridle as she Tabbed the reins, and the gun was discharged. , Amann fell, Mrs. Hodfce told the detective, de-tective, and she climbed out of the carriage and ran to his side. Finding him apparently dead, she placed the pistol beside hia body. Next she unhitched thehorse anllet it run loose. Then she ran to her home. Next morning, finding that every . one believed it waa a case of suicide and fearing to compromise herself by telling of ner riding, she decided-to rents in quiet. When Andrews was convicted last week her conscience began to trouble hor, and it 'was then an easy matter for the detectives to get her dreadful secret from her. John Scarlet. Andrews's attorney, employed the detectives to watch the woman upon whom his suspicion had fallen. She was arrested Wednesday after being induced to go to Atlantic City, and following the news of Andrews conviction, told her story of the killing. |
