Show PROPOSE TO CHANGE . REGISTRATION LAW ALBANY. N. Y- June .10. Oovernor Ii has in his hands for action a new election hill which makes one note, worthv chnnge in the present law. Thi ia in the mutter of Ihe registration of voters. Heretofore personal registra tion has noj,. been required in rural dintriets or in anv village of less than SHOO inhabitants. The election ofheials have had th4 power to enroll any per sous whom they know to be- voters without requiring the Utter to attend personally on registration days. Bv the bill just panned by the legis lattire, personal registration is made necessary throughout the state, with the concession that in villages nf less than 5i"M inhabitants and in rural com-niur.ities. com-niur.ities. those persons that, voted at the last preceding election are not re quired to register in person. Politicians are speculating what effect, ef-fect, if anv, such a law would have ou the rural vote. Tho upstate vote of . New York is, of course, heavily Re-1 publican. |
