Show FOOTBALL PRACTICE STARTS AT THE H. S. BT "BILL" TATES, This afternoon the first sprlns; football practl? in the history of the gridiron game at the local high school' was held under the supervision of Coach D. A. Callahan. A squad of about twenty hoys donned the fighting garb for the early work and the afternoon was spent In passing tha ball, starting and running down punts. Coach Callahan Is well pleased with the willing spirit that haa been shown by his "ttlda7 of the west side Institution in taking up the football work. The eight of men In football suits caused much excitement ex-citement among the "etudes" of the school who lined the campus watching the boys at work. The practice will continue until un-til tha close of school, when the members of tha squad will pack the carpet bag and wend their way to some place of toll for the summer months In order to be In shape for the opening fall workouts. At a meeting of the base ball team "Bobby" Wilson, who haa held down the second sack for the paat two years, waa chosen captain of the 1912 nine. Wilson haa the reputation of being one of the moat cool headed players who ever wore a uniform for the west alders and Is an Ideal man to lead a team. George Hunter waa picked to manage the team. At a meeting of the directors nf the athletic association It "was decided to award the members of the track and baseball teams with tha .official high ?hool red and black jersey.. Olsen, Meat. Me-at. McPherson and BIgelow the baseball )eraeys. The medals for the high point winners In the tnterclaas track meet held at the university May 4 have arrived. Heher Tay will receive the gold medal for the highest point winner. Carl Olsen tha silver sil-ver medal for being second and Dan Ournsey the bronse medal for third high point winner. The Fred Richmond medal winner will be decided this week. |
