Show AMERICAN EXPORTS AND IMPORTS. If anyone does not think that this is a hie; country p him look over tho fienrfs which Hesip- natp the imports and exports for the last twelve months. In that time we bought from the outside world material valued at $1,321,064,604. which is an increase in-crease of $141,000,000 over the previous year. Of that amount the dutiable poods amounted to $7'2-618.466, $7'2-618.466, an increase of about $0,000,000 over the previous year. In the same time we sold to the outside out-side world of our products $1.708.107.05.1, an increase in-crease of $1J1.100.000 over the former year, and the balance of trade in our favor, as shown by the imports im-ports and exports, amounted to $477.043.261 , an increase of $20,000,000 over the previous year. The imports of pold exceeded the exports of that metal by $108,000,360. an increase of over $l(0 00O- ooo. The exports of silver exceeded the imports by tl4.68o.444. If our country can keep that up a few years; that is. if in addition to its own pold product it can draw more than $100,000,000 from the outside world, the result will be tha it will cost so much to live here that people cannot stay, and abroad the people will be too poor to live. |
