Show RED HOT COfiPLlMENTS fact that the city of Ofden pays double for the price of printing It paid when I was Mayor shows that ths City Council acted wisely in refusing to cancel the contract. As for the statement that I was defeated de-feated for re-eleetlon. that charge la also false, as I declined a renomlnatlon. and did not run a third time. As for the other statement made by this fake reformer. Kkeen. If they are equally, aa untrue as what he said about me, then Ananias loses the title of the International liar championship. Mr. Kkeen failed to say that he aa defeated for the County Attorneyship last fall. WH. tIASMANN. OGDEN. Utah, Jan. 14, 'OT. To The 6alt Lake Telegram: In your paper of January 23 you have an interview with a so-called reformer known aa Sheen, In which he la quoted as ' saying "that Glasmann had awarded to his papers trie city advertising In defiance de-fiance of the law. wtilch provides that no public advertising shall go to a paper when owned by a man holding public office." of-fice." Second, "that the City Council had for years been paying from three to four 'hundred dollars monthly In extra feea to the papers represented bv said Olasmann." Third. "Skeen further says that Olasmann was defeated for re-election." I wish to announce that all three of the said statements are positively false and knpwn to be such by Mr. Skeen. In the first place, $490 per month for advertising la equal to $4800 per year, and is more than the city of Ogden appropriated ap-propriated for printing during the entire four years that 1 waa Mayor. The total amount awarded for printing to the Standard Publishing company, of which I was the business manager, was about $100 per month I think a little less than that per month. My predeceasora In office of-fice contracted with the Standard Publishing Pub-lishing company for doing said printing. When I waa elected Mayor of Ogden. I aaked the City Council to cancel the contract con-tract with the Standard Publishing company, com-pany, but the City Council discovered that. If the contract was canceled, the price would have been doubled. The matter was submitted to the City Attorney, and he stated that it was not contrary to law for the advertlahig to go to the Standard Publishing company under un-der the contract made prior to the time ita bualnesa manager was elected Mayor. Immediately after my term of office expired, ex-pired, the contract waa canceled hy the City Council, and the City Council lias since then paid double the price It paid for printing when I waa Mayor.
