Show "HEADS" IT'S SCHRECK; "TAILS," ITS WILLE TONOPAH, Nev., April 8. John Wllle. the husky Chicago heavy-weight fighter who Is now training at the Turf gymnasium gym-nasium for his finish fight with Mike Schreck In the Casino Athletic club, the night of April 15, looks the part. Anybody Any-body would pick Wllle for a fighter out of a crowd of a hundred. Nature favored him with every advantage for the business busi-ness he picked out to earn his living. Ills stature, his reach, big. broad shoulders; short, thick neck; In fact, everything- about him. looks the part. In his rood and gymnasium work, he shows that his ambition lies in the direction of seeing Mike Schreck counted out by Referee Floto. He ia a glutton for work, and it dally takes the combined efforts of his manager and trainers to get him to atop working. Yesterday, for instance, he was at work in the gymnasium, without a minute's intermission, for an hour and a I half. During that time, he wore out two wrestling partners, boxed eight rounds with his sparring partner, jumped the rope, did some shadow boxing and punched the bag. After all this work Wille did not draw a long breath to the wonder of a large crowd of on-lookera. A man cannot leave the Wille camp without feeling convinced that Schreck will prove a sure loser on the night of April 16, but when one watches Schreck go through the same routine, equally aa willing- and with a vim seldom exhibited by a man In training, one ponders and falls to make up his mind where to place his little wager Just to cover the expense ex-pense on the coming Cght. 'After watching watch-ing both Schreck and Wllle at their work yesterday, a Qoldfleld visitor who is sportively inclined, said: "A while ago I liked John Wllle. but that was before I saw Schreck work out; Now I don't know where to place my money .V "Tell you what I'll do," answered his friend; I will bet you $50 and toss up this coin. Heads, I take Schreck, and tails, my money goes on Wllle." This was agreed to. and the coin went spinning through the air and came back ''tails." The $50 bet was mad accordingly.- . - |
