Show Children to Hear Navy Band Sfr4 a I lJ HOMER PHILLIPS Trembeae silalst te play aero Tribune-Telegram and 'IT Extension Division Sponsor Event Salt Lake City school children will have an opportunity to hear the United States navy band October Oc-tober 17, when the premier musical musi-cal organization of the navy will present a matinee concert under sponsorship of The Salt Lake Tribune-Telegram and the University of Utah extension diviison. The S5-piece band will appear the same evening in a public performance per-formance as the first event in the 1939-40 University of Utah Master Minds and Artists series. Invitations to students will be made through school principals. Pupils from each school wlll attend In groups, with sections of the L. D. S. tabernacle allotted to each school. Outstanding performers with the band, which in 1834 wns recognized recog-nized by the American Bandmasters' Bandmas-ters' association as the "outstanding "outstand-ing band in America," Include Oscar Os-car Short, cornet soloist, and Homer Ho-mer Phillips, trombone soloist. On Its first western tour in 13 years, the band will be led by Lieutenant Charles Benter. a student stu-dent and friend of the late John Philip Sousa. The afternoon concert will feature fea-ture a special program with particular par-ticular appeal to children and is the latest of the many educational activities The Tribune-Telegram has sponsored for children ia the last few years.
