Show Chicago Sees "Mary"Garden As Courtesan Four Thousand Opera Lovers Witness New Year's Eve Show Which Dazzles and Enthralls Them CHICAGO. Jan. I. Mary Garden aa the golden courtesan. Chrysla. dominated the opera "Aphrodite." the Kew Year's eve entertainment for 400 operagoing Chlcagoana. Draperies of the tint of pallid sunshine sun-shine constituted her first costume. Her second was diaphanous rose and leopard's skim and a long scarf of dull green. The third was cunningly folded mists of white- But that wasn't the half of It. Spectators were left breathless by the terpairhorean realism of Pavley, maater of the ballet. A transparent "chiffon house" wss the only mask aa a statuesque youth and his inamorata prevented the ancient equivalent of a wedding night The party got a little rougher when the youth brought the girl to the footlights so that none might miss their gestures. The audience didn't receive the dsnc.-'g well, and curtain calls were conspicuous by their absence. The conversation was along the linea of, "Isn't the music wonderful?"
