Show WYOMINGJOLI TAXESOPPOSED EVANSTON, Wyo. The state poll tax will be eliminated if the 46 county assessors and treasurers' plans mature and the next session of the stata legislature concurs. Ninety-fivs per cent of Wyoming assessors are in favor of changing or repealing the statute and a large percentage of treasurers also are lending support. The tax, enacted originally to obtain ob-tain revenue from those having no property, has been replaced in purpose pur-pose by the sales tax which everyone pays, the assessors contend. They also object to the difficulty In collecting the levy, $2 annually for everyona between 21 and 50 years of age. Ths poll tax is added to ths property tax statements and collected with the property tax in one Instance. The tax for those without property Is collected through . corporations employing them. The money collected in poll taxes goes to ths school district in which it originates, the county receiving nothing. The condition is objected to by the assessors the collection of taxes for the school districts by a county officer of-ficer with the county receiving no part to offset the vxpense and time incurred. |
