"-jr - - - Beauhuld Shows Promise ' In Winning 44 Battles By Associated Press A little over two years ago, Billy Beauhuld won the national A. A. U. lightweight boxing title. Shortly thereafter he turned professional. pro-fessional. He has fought 44 pro battles without finishing on the losing end. He won 40. Most of hia early fighting waa done in and around Jersey City. About a year ago his manager. Jack Connolly, decided his protege was ready to tangle with the best. So the pair shifted activities to New York. It wasn't long before Beauhuld Beau-huld caught on and established himself him-self as a lightweight of championship champion-ship caliber. Recent Victims Billy has eliminated a number of contenders for ths crown worn by Lou Ambers. His recent victims include Lou Lombard!, Frsnkie Klick, George Zengaras. Red Gug-gino, Gug-gino, Phil Baker, Eddie Zivic, Johnny John-ny Be 11 us. Paul Junior, Frankie Ter-ranova Ter-ranova and others. Baker was one of the four boxers who managed to hold Billy to a draw. In a return match, however, Beauhuld trounced Baker with ease. IV Feldman also tied Billy. But, on that occasion. Beauhuld' manager man-ager was too ill to be in his corner the only time in his career that Billy haa fought without hia manager's man-ager's coaching. In his string of 40 victories, Beauhuld Beau-huld managed to put his opponents down for the full count on many occasions. In many instances where he failed to stop his rivals, he did manage to drop them for counts of varioua lengtha. Sharp Puncher A sharpshootlng puncher as well aa a clever boxer, Billy reminds one of Jimmy McLarnin inasmuch as he feints his opponents into giving him an opening and then fires a devestating shot. He Is a natural lightweight. Only 21 years old. he is exceptionally strong, has stamina, shakes off the effects of a punch well, and rallies best when he haa been stung by an opponent. |
