All tnree employer representatives representa-tives of the wage board voted against the $16 minimum, contending contend-ing it would damage Utah in industrial indus-trial competition with states paying lower wages. The recommendation was adopted when Chairman Knerr voted with the three employe representatives repre-sentatives of the board. The employers' side held out for a minimum of 113.20 weekly. Last week the commission, acting act-ing on the recommendation of another an-other wags board, set 118 weekly ss minimum psy for women and children in the state's retail trades. The proposals pro-posals included: Eight hours a day for five days and four hours for one day, making a 44-hour week; no pay deductions for damage unless due to gross negligence neg-ligence of employe; employers to provide uniforms snd pay for upkeep; up-keep; a part-time day of not leas than four hours, not applying in case of temporary shutdowns beyond be-yond control of employers; time and one-third for overtime; employes' time to be computed on a weekly basis, and reckoning of time worked to nearest unit of IS minutes. It was decided that waiting shall be counted as working time and be t paid for at regular rates, that no boms work shall be given women and minors, one hour shall be allowed al-lowed for meals, and piecework rates shall not bs less than the hourly rates. j |
