The appropriation was approved after women, headed by Mra. Anthony An-thony C. Lund, appeared before the board In regular aeaalon to press their request for money to match 11000 which women have raised by popular subscription. "The sample will Include all kinds of Utah coals," said Mra Lund. "We have no deaire to block any other plan or method, but we believe thle Is the quickest way to determine deter-mine feaaibility of manufacturing smokeless fuel from Utah's great natural resources." Mrs. Lund added that the group has not -yet determined where the sample will be eent. Approximately 40 women, who received re-ceived apecial Invltatalons from the foundation to attend the educational educa-tional demonstration, were conducted conduct-ed through the laboratory by Dean J. L. Gibson of the University of Utah school of arts and sciences, and president of the foundation; George W. Carter, fuel research engineer en-gineer for the foundation, and R. B. Ketchum. dean of the University of Utah school of engineering and chairman of the. foundation's "committee "com-mittee of eight." . The majority of women who made the tour were repreaentaivea of the Salt Lake District of Utah Federation Federa-tion of Women's Clubs headed by Mrs. Hugh Ward, preaident of the district. A few representatives were from the women's legislative council, coun-cil, in charge of Mrs. A. M. Woodbury, Wood-bury, chairman of the education committee. Preceding the tour a brief meeting waa held at 2 p. m. in the John R. Park building, with Mrs. J. L. Gibson, Gib-son, chairman of the Industrial committee com-mittee of the Salt Lake district, presiding. pre-siding. Speakers were Dean Gibson, Gib-son, Mr. Carter and Dean Ketchum.
