Show Tax Board Would Void Drivers' Licenses Issued Prior to 1935 More Stringent Examination of Motorists to Be Demanded in Proposed Law Cancellation of all drivers' licenses issued under the original act of 1933 and examination of all motorists who want these permits per-mits renewed was proposed Wednesday by the state tax commission commis-sion in recommendations being prepared for the 1939 legislsture. Pointing out that drivers' examinations, ex-aminations, now glven under an amended act of 1935, should be "materially Improved," the commission commis-sion report ssid that additional revenue rev-enue would be needed for this purpose pur-pose snd proposed raising the license fee from 25 cents to "sn smount which will msks it possible to put into operation a very thorough thor-ough system of .exsmlnstlons." Should ths recommendstiona be written into law by tha legislature, thoussnds of Utah motorists who under the act of 1033 obtained li-csnsss li-csnsss without the necessity of ex-aminationa ex-aminationa would have to surrender surren-der their permits and undergo tests considerably stricter then those now given. The commission pointed out the legislative Intent apparently waa not to permit the commission to examine all applicants for -renewals, only those whose driving ability la questioned. Licenses issued under the 1933 act are godd until suspended or revoked for law violation, but the 1K14 amendment made all licenses Iaaued thereafter good only for three years. The commission report said arrangements ar-rangements could be made for examinations for license renewals, with tesu set for a "reasonable number" of applicants dsily. The recommendations pointed out a lack of uniformity in penalties for failure of motorists to have drivers' licenses and auggeated the legislature legisla-ture "may be able to develop some plan which will command more respect re-spect for the drivers' license law.
