Show WITNESSES TO ALLEGED POLYGAMY OF j JUDGE TANNER BEFORE GRAND JURY ! . . . The grand Jury convened at 10 o'clock this morning, and if the names of the witnesses examined are any clue to the investigations now being made, the polygamy charges made against Judge H. S. Tanner are being looked Into. The witnesses who were called before the Jury frhls forenoon were as follows: Robert Sleater, S. W. Mann, Mrs. Clara Kimball Rager and , Mrs. ' Lydla A. Thatcher.; - , The first witness called was Robert Sleater, who as a judge of election last November, is said to have challenged the vote of Miss' Richards, daughter of i former State Auditor Morgan Richards. Rumors were also afloat at that time to the effect that Miss Richards was' a polygamous wife of Judge Tanner. Her vote, however, was not challenged on that ground. Sleater was in the jury-room jury-room only about fifteen minutes, when S. W. Mann was called. Mann was on the Inquisitorial Beat for about half an hour, and it is presumed pre-sumed that he was questioned in regard to anything he had ever seen, as a neighbor of Judge Tanner when the latter lat-ter Jived . on Oak street. Mr. Mann's address -is 78 Peach street. Mrs. Rager was the next witness to go before the jury. She remained In the chamber about forty-five minutes. Then. Mrs. Thatcher, plural wife of Moses Thatcher, and mother of Clarice Clar-ice Thatcher, who. it is said, Samuel Russell alleged to be the polygamous wife of Judge Tanner. . After Mrs. Thatcher, who remained in the room about thirty minutes, came out, Miss Karma Thatcher, her daughter, daugh-ter, was taken in to be examined. This was the last witness to be up before the grand jury at this morning's session. The session was adjourned at 12:30 I until 2:13 this afternoon. |
